At Nelson Mandela University’s Medical School, clinical skills are an essential part of the curriculum, aimed at bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical patient care. Clinical skills training is designed to assist medical students to develop clinical expertise with the necessary skill to effectively diagnose, treat and manage patients in real-world healthcare settings.
This training is grounded in a hands-on, patient-centered approach, ensuring that medical students not only understand medical concepts but can also apply them in clinical practice. Throughout their studies, medical students undergo practical training sessions within on and off Campus and direct patient interaction ensured through clinical placements, all under the supervision of experienced academic staff and clinicians.
Medical students are trained in communication skills and various clinical procedures, including history-taking, physical examination, diagnostic testing and basic life support, to name a few, ensures that students build confidence and competence in managing a wide range of medical situations.
